Explore the world of global AI Regulation

AI Regulation provides policy complexity and uncertainty, along with offering multiple opportunities for Australia to evolve alongside global leaders in this area.

AI regulation is a major policy issue which no single stakeholder, organisation, or country can address in isolation - a multi-layered approach toward laws, standards, and best practices is required (Weissinger 2022).

This month the IDPO has released a comprehensive collection of resources on AI Regulation. AI has emerged as the leading technological regulatory challenge of the century and this dataset provides unique insights into the evolution of AI policy over the past 7 years.

Get quick and easy access to over 100,000 policy documents, YouTube videos, academic journals, podcasts and news articles from around the world.

Through easily downloadable csv files, you can search by title, year and country and access the original source document in just one click.

Good Internet Policy: How, What, Why, Where, and For Whom?

The 2024 Policy & Internet conference, hosted by the University of Sydney, invites scholars, policymakers, civic interest groups, platform providers and regulatory bodies to participate in a dialogue about the nature of ‘good Internet policy’. Set against the backdrop of significant global events like NetMundial+10 and the United Nations Global Digital Compact, the conference seeks to unravel the complexities of Internet governance and policymaking and to explore diverse pathways towards a ‘good’ future for the Internet for all.

The IDPO team will be attending and presenting at the Good Internet Policy conference from 2-4 October.

AI Regulation: State of the Art
Terry Flew, Justin Miller, Rob Nicholls

This presentation will identify trends in the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) around the world using the International Digital Policy Observatory (IDPO). It will discuss how the IDPO is tracking such developments internationally, and what are the dominant trends. It will address implications of these findings for AI regulation in Australia, noting that Australia has opted for a more “light touch” approach as compared with the European Union.
